Hatching Chicks!

I always try to take some video
and get a few photos of my chicks when they are hatching.
To me it's just so fun and educational to
watch these little guys make their way into the world.

Here is a short video at the very end of my last chick hatch.

I have a few more hatches coming up as well.

Hatch Date: Whats Hatching
5/1/12 Serama
5/5/12 Turkey
5/10/12 Serama & Easter Eggers

So stay tuned for more videos and pics!

Muscovy Ducks & Chicken Swap

We had a great turnout at the swap in Hephzibah.
We got a trio of Blue Fawn Muscovy ducks while we were there.
Our ducks are approximately 2 months old.
Some muscovy will start laying at
about 6 months old, so we could have eggs as
early as this summer.
Once we have eggs from our ducks
we will offer them for sale for eating.
I will also incubate some and once fertility
is determined will offer hatching eggs for sale as well.

There was a lot of vendors at the swap,
there were chickens, ducks, pigs, rabbits and pigs.
Lots of people showed up and did a lot of browsing.
Barnharts did a great job of setting up for us,
it was very organized and easy to navigate and set up.

Please visit my For Sale page
to see the animals that did not
get sold at the swap.
There are still several birds that need
to find homes.

Turkeys Coming to the Homestead!

Yesterday we went and picked up some turkey hatching eggs! We got a mix of Eastern Wilds, Bourbon Reds, Royal Palms and Narragansetts. We can't wait to have some beautiful, big birds free ranging on the farm. My husband is an avid turkey hunter so this was a bird purchase he was really excited about! He loves watching these majestic animals strutting their stuff and drumming it up! I will post pics of the poults once they arrive!

Livestock Swap! Saturday, April 21st

There is going to be a swap at Barnharts on Hwy 88 on Saturday, April 21, 2012. It will begin at 9am and last until everyone decides to leave.... There should be plenty of chickens, chicks and hatching eggs there , of several different breeds. There also promises to be plants and other livestock. Come and join us for a day sure to be filled with fun! For more information go check out the facebook page that is sponsoring the swap!

Incubating Chicks

The incubator is on and running,
hopefully we will have some cute little fluffy butts
hatch out, they are due to hatch in 13 days.
We had a small power outage last week but I think we are still
gonna end up with a great hatch rate.
I am gonna candle them tonight, I hope.
Time permitting.
It's tough managing your time with a
9 month old to care for!
I will try to remember to take some
pictures when I do candle.
Happy Farming!
